The Facts

The cards are stacked against your children. They are being bombarded on a minute-by-minute basis by messages that, if heeded, will lead to a life of struggle and difficulty. It's tough to be a healthy kid these days in the face of facts like these:

  • About one in three children in the United States is either overweight or in danger of becoming overweight.
  • The number of overweight children 6 to 17 years of age has doubled within the last three decades.
  • Fewer than half of American school children receive daily physical education.
  • 25 Million American children under 17 are at a high risk for Type 2 Diabetes.
  • More than 70% of obese adolescents retain their condition into adulthood.
  • The current generation is projected to be the first NOT to live longer than its parents.

    "But what can I do?"

Studies have shown that despite the negative messages children receive from the media, commercial advertising, and their peers, the MOST influential people in a child's life are still his or her PARENTS!

The choices parents make and the habits they allow their children to develop are the NUMBER ONE factor in their child's future health and prosperity. Children deserve the opportunity to be healthy and today, there ARE healthy choices and alternatives to the sugar/calorie/chemical culture that is threatening the lives of a generation.

    The Program

"Off the Couch" is a fun, engaging, one-hour program for parents of young children. In the presentation, Brandon Walker takes parents through a series of practical steps that they can take to contribute to the health of their children.

The program is completely positive and non-confrontational, focusing on the benefits and possibilities that healthy children can expect as healthy adults. The "Off the Couch" program encourages parents to model healthy diet and excercise habits to their children and teaches them how they can do so.
